After sending thousands of letters to various agencies and organizations over the years, Valentino finally caught the attention of reporter Anthony Cardinale, a writer at the Buffalo News. Soon after, Cardinale, took a serious interest in the case and started a investigation of his own. Cardinale having statements that was never used by Valentino's trial attorney, police documents that exonerated Valentino and a video taped confession from the actual shooter began to write a series of articles which quickly lead to new witnesses and blatent cover up for a wrongful conviction. The first article was published July 4th, 2004. Six more articles would soon follow.
